First, I have gallstones but they were always asymptomatic. I wouldn't have know I had them if I hadn't had an ultrasound five months ago for an unrelated issue and those showed up.
Symptoms vary when your gallbladder starts screaming at you. Mine were:
- Pain on the right side of my abdomen, under my rib cage
- Pain through my back
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Inability to get comfortable in any position
My first attack was manageable. It lasted 4-5 hours and the pain was more like very bad heartburn. My second attack was excruciating. The pain level was off the charts. My daughter almost called for
emergency assistance it was that bad and she was scared. As I was getting dressed to drive myself to the emergency room, it was over. It stopped. The attack was over. Thankfully, the second attack only lasted about 2-1/2 hours.
Both attacks happened at night and both attacks happened after a day of high fat eating. Since then, I've been on a very low fat diet and there have been no more attacks. Believe me, I really want to avoid it. That second attack was scary. I see my doctor on Friday so I am hoping to learn more then.
